The IKRD project, led by the Akkon Hochschule für Humanwissenschaften in collaboration with the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe and Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, addresses the growing challenges paramedic teams face in intercultural emergency situations. Increasing diversity, language barriers, and high-stress conditions can impact communication and decision-making in critical care contexts.

To tackle this, we develop immersive, data-driven training environments that simulate realistic emergency scenarios. These simulations combine 360° video, interactive avatars, dynamic objects, and large language models to create adaptive, non-linear interactions. Scenarios are randomized to expose trainees to a wide range of communication patterns and biases, enabling repeatable yet varied training experiences.

The system is designed not only for realism, but for measurable outcomes: user behavior, decisions, and communication patterns can be analyzed to improve intercultural competence and support evidence-based training design.
