XBPMMM is an immersive multiplayer virtual reality experience that merges players’ physical bodies with a constantly transforming virtual environment. Players inhabit avatars that morph throughout different levels, creating a performative space in which gameplay, body theory, and computational systems intersect.
Through a combination of performative art, interactive mechanics, and sensor-based input, the project invites reflection on corporeality, agency, and embodiment. XBPMMM adopts a queer feminist perspective to challenge dominant power structures and propose alternative ways of perceiving, processing, and relating to bodies within digital and physical spaces.
By incorporating breath sensors and actuators, the experience establishes a feedback loop between players’ physical sensations and the virtual environment. This connection enables deeper narrative immersion and supports the exploration of socially relevant themes through embodied interaction.
The work was presented on a large stage at HAU – Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin from January 19 to 22, 2023, and was also exhibited at the Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) 2023 in Greece.
